Sedimentation model of D3 sub-sequence, late Oligocene in the southwest of the Cuu Long basin
Abstract
The study area is located on the southwest edge of the Cuu Long basin. During the late Oligocene (D3), sedimentary enviroment was lacustrine/ lake. Material supplies were transported from the west and north by rivers flowing through the continental sedimentary areas. From the results of geological and geophysical analysis, a sediment model for D3 is proposed. In this model, the study area is located near the sedimentary center of Cuu Long basin with several small deltas forming on the western edge of the basin and a large submarine delta extending in the NE - SW direction. The positive reservoir test results at some exploration wells in this delta show that there is potential for the Oligocene D in the area to be further explored.
