Abstract

The Ruby field (Block 01&02, Cuu Long basin) has a complex geological structure, presenting many challenges during drilling operation. Common issues include pipe stuck, gas kick, mud loss, and even well loss, resulting in significant economic damages. To ensure safe operations and optimize drilling costs, it is essential to thoroughly understand the geomechanical properties of the rock in the area.

This study focuses on constructing a 1D geomechanical model based on well log data. This model serves as a useful tool for predicting and controlling challenges during drilling operations in the Ruby field. By determining the optimal mud weight window based on calculated key parameters such as overburden stress, pore pressure, elastic parameters, and rock strength, this model significantly contributes to improving wellbore stability, minimizing risks, and optimizing costs.
