Global energy transition: A forecast to 2050
Abstract
The global energy supply has been dominated by fossil fuel for over a century. In recent years, under the pressure coming from climate change and pollution, energy transition and decarbonisation have inevitably emerged. However, seeking new energy sources that meet the trilemma - affordable and available, green and clean, secure and reliable - is not easy. Thus, fossil fuel is still indispensable and occupying a significant percentage in the energy mix. Geographical features, scientific and technological levels, economic situations, policies and awareness of climate issues are factors determining the energy transition rate of each region.
