Abstract

Inspection and evaluation of damages and defects of materials (including welds) using non-destructive tests (NDT) are necessary requirements of modern industries which ensure more precise and eff ective inspection and evaluation than traditional methods. On such basis, users can work out suitable plans for maintenance and repairs of equipment to increase their life span and reliability as well as to reduce risks during operation. This paper describes the scientific fundamentals and operating characteristics of three NDT methods: phased array, time of flight diff raction (TOFD), and endoscopy. The measurement and testing results in practice showed a high reliability of the studied methods, thus they can be widely applied in the petroleum industry.
