Enhancing hydrothermal stability for ZSM-5 zeolite by modifying with P4+ solutions

In this study, the modification of a ZSM-5 zeolite by phosphorus compounds to enhance hydrothermal stability in fluid catalytic cracking is investigated. Samples with various P loading (P/Al molar ratio from 0.25 to 1) were deactivated via steaming treatment in same condition, characterised through XRD, BET and evaluated in terms of MAT cracking activity. Results showed the effectiveness of modification with P compounds in stabilising ZSM-5 zeolite structure, thereby improving propylene selectivity in FCC. Sample at P/Al =1 gives the best effect on improving hydrothermal stability, the propylene and light olefin yields are highest, while the crystal structure retains the typical peaks of ZSM- 5, the relative crystallinity and the reduction of the micropore surface area in this sample are also the lowest.
