Abstract

The Vietnam Petroleum Institute tested the water-mineral oil emulsion system as an engine fuel and compared it with diesel on Vikyno EV2600-NB engine (used single cylinder and 4-stroke diesel engine, the maximum power and speed of the engine is 25 HP and 2,400 rpm, respectively) on the Froude DFX3 power test bench, and operate the engine under the same conditions and test modes for the 2 fuels.

The test results show that the smoke emission when the engine uses mineral oil emulsified fuel is reduced by an average of 7% compared to mineral diesel oil in the whole range of test speed from 1,000 rpm to 2,200 rpm. The NOx and CO2 emissions of emulsion fuel are reduced compared with mineral diesel fuel (a reduction of 10% for NOx and 5% for CO2).

This research result of VPI has been granted the Patent by the National Office of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology for the utility solution "Nanoscale water-in-oil emulsion additives, production process of water-in-oil emulsion additives in nano size and water-in-mineral oil emulsion”.

This solution allows to easily manufacture water-in-oil emulsion in nano size, stable for a long time, can be used as fuel to replace mineral oil or as oil to separate concrete molds in construction field with better performance than conventional emulsions.
