Abstract

The study of chemical agents for use in oil recovery technology has received much attention in recent years. When surfactant is injected together with petroleum sulfonate or alkyl aryl sulfonate, the additional alkali will increase the pH level and create negative charges on the surface of the clay. However, with the addition of alkaline and polymer, this method will require expensive chemicals to soften the water. This article presents a method for analysis of trace carboxylate surfactant using UV spectrophotometer to evaluate the features of chemical agents used in ASP (alkaline/surfactant/polymer) flooding.
